Hearn claimed Benn’s representatives offered him “bait money” while negotiating behind the scenes with rival groups
Eddie Hearn launched a furious attack on Conor Benn’s team Friday night, accusing them of fabricating negotiations and attempting to buy his silence during contract discussions. The Matchroom promoter claimed Benn’s representatives offered him “bait money” while already negotiating elsewhere behind the scenes.
“What they did was they fabricated a deal of which there will be legal action incoming of a one-fight deal for $15 million with no other options, no other conversations at all,” said Hearn to iFL TV.
“And funnily enough, straight after that fight, there was another one announced. So, we’ll get to the bottom of that. That’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Hearn also claimed Benn’s lawyer attempted to offer him money in exchange for not publicly criticizing Benn or his team during negotiations.
“What happened was Conor Benn’s lawyer sent me an email rather than Conor Benn ever speaking to me,” said Hearn.
“He said, ‘What we’d like to do as well, we would like to give you $250,000 as like a thank you.’ I’ve got a better idea. Go and stick it up your ass because all you’re concerned about is what I’m going to say about you.
“You think you want to give me bait money to keep my mouth shut? F*** off. You give me 25 million, I’d still tell you to stick it up your ass because that’s how I felt about the situation.”
The comments came after Hearn was asked about claims made by Keith Connolly regarding discussions tied to Benn’s future and potential involvement with other promotional groups.
Hearn finished the exchange by accusing Benn’s side of misleading him during discussions while already speaking to rival parties behind the scenes.
“They know what they did,” said Hearn. “They’re having meetings with me, they’re already talking to the other lot. Slags. Absolute slags.”
