Maple Leafs to speak with Wild’s Judd Brackett for assistant GM position

As the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to navigate an off-season full of change, the front office is still taking shape.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs are among the teams permitted by Minnesota to speak with Judd Bracket, the Wild’s director of amateur scouting, which would be for an assistant general manager position with Toronto.
Friedman’s reporting comes after the Athletic’s Michael Russo reported that Brackett is leaving the Wild for “an elevated position for another team.” The veteran scout ran Minnesota’s last five drafts and is on an expiring contract.
Should Brackett sign on the dotted line with Toronto, he’ll join a revamped front office led by GM John Chayka and senior executive advisor Mats Sundin, who took over this off-season after Brad Treliving was dismissed in March.
Among the tasks awaiting the Leafs front office are hiring a new head coach following Craig Berube’s departure and deciding what to do with the No. 1 pick in next month’s draft.
The Maple Leafs are coming off a 32-36-14 season, finishing eighth in the Atlantic Division, as the franchise missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
