FINAL: Mark Hill wins race for Frisco mayor

Frisco residents elected Mark Hill as the next mayor during the June 13 runoff election.

With all precincts reporting in Collin and Denton counties, Hill garnered a majority of the voters against Rod Vilhauer.

Hill earned 19,632, of 58.12% over Vilhauer’s 14,146, or 41.88%

All results are unofficial until canvassed. Frisco will canvass the election results at the summer work session June 23.

Mark Hill maintained his lead over Rod Vilhauer in the race for Frisco mayor.

In Collin County, five out of seven precincts are reporting results and in Denton County all precincts are reporting.

Hall garnered 18,361, or 57.98% of the vote. Vilhauer continued to trail with 13,307, or 45.02%.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Mark Hill leads in early votes over Rod Vilhauer in the race for Frisco mayor in the June 13 runoff election.

What you need to know

Frisco residents voted on one ballot item for the runoff election in the race for mayor.

Hill earned 15,056, or 58.06% of early votes. Vilhauer trailed with 10,876, or 41.94% of the vote.

The runoff follows the May 2 election where no one earned over 50% of the initial vote, which led to the top two vote getters to face off in June. On May 2, Hill received the most votes with 34.64%, and Vilhauer trailed with 31.42%.

In the runoff, 25,932 ballots were cast in early voting.

Totals from ballots cast June 13 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.

Zooming out

The mayoral race does not have an incumbent running because Mayor Jeff Cheney termed out of the position. It will be the first time Frisco will have a new mayor since 2017, when Cheney was first elected mayor.

The mayor is in charge of facilitating City Council meetings and only votes to break a tie.
