Daniel Radcliffe reveals what he misses most about the UK – it will surprise you

Daniel Radcliffe is one of England’s most recognisable actors, having shot to global fame as the star of the Harry Potter film series. Although he has lived in the US full time since 2020, he still regularly travels back to the UK whenever his schedule allows. During an appearance on Bustle’s One Nightstand series, Daniel revealed what he misses most about his home country, explaining that he doesn’t believe the American version compares.

Speaking to presenter Charlotte Owen, he said: “I honestly miss the UK. The thing I miss most which is very weird is quiz shows. We do a quiz better than America, frankly. “They have Jeopardy over here which is fantastic, but I miss University Challenge so much.” The 37-year-old clearly enjoys a quiz show that tests general knowledge through trivia-based questions, as he went on to list some of his favourites.

“University Challenge, Only Connect, Pointless, and Mastermind, there’s just so many good ones,” he declared. “Game show culture exists here and it’s great, but the quiz show culture, we need to bring that along.”

The presenter echoed his thoughts, responding: “I agree. I miss that and I miss the sort of collective experience that you have in the UK around those formats because America’s so big, you don’t have the same shared experience.”

During the same interview, the Woman in Black star admitted he is hoping to become a US citizen. Although he has a Green Card, which allows him to live and work permanently in the US, Daniel revealed he has to wait “at least four years” before he can apply for citizenship.

“Well, I wanted to get a Green Card because my son is American and I’m going to need to be able to be here whenever I need to be here, but definitely, it’s a weirdly impotent feeling not being able to get involved (in politics),” he said.

Daniel has been in a relationship with actress Erin Darke since 2012 and the couple welcomed a son in April 2023.

In May, the Every Brilliant Thing recalled watching the Winter Olympics Erin, 41, when their three-year-old son suddenly saw him on screen in a commercial for the Broadway play.

“I had walked out of the room, and suddenly the ad for the show came up, and he’s never seen anything I’ve done or been aware of any of that stuff,” he told PEOPLE. “He just goes, with the tone of voice that was like, ‘I’m not crazy right?’ He just goes, ‘Dada?’ Then he was like, ‘Did he leave?’ because he thought because I left the room that I had then suddenly appeared on the TV.”

He added: “You know your job is a bulls*** job when you can’t describe it to a child. As an actor. You know you can explain policeman and fireman and doctor and stuff like that.

“But when you get to acting, you’re like, ‘Yeah, we tell stories, you know, like your books. We sort of act out your stories.’ He’s truly so far away from having a concept of what I do, and I’m going to keep him in the dark as long as possible.”
