Coronation Street‘s Sally Metcalfe is set to make a big decision amid Betsy Swain’s shocking strangulation storyline. The teenager was recently admitted to hospital suffering a stroke, which was caused by a blood clot brought on by strangulation by Dylan Wilson during consensual sex.
While both parties were horrified, Dylan eventually accepts responsibility for causing the health scare while facing a backlash from other residents.

The topic has opened up a discussion in Weatherfield, and will make Sally decide to take increasing responsibility over her foster daughters next Wednesday.
In the new scenes, she warns Joanie about the dangers of strangulation during sex, telling her that it should be avoided no matter what.
“Sally is taking her responsibilities as Joanie and Shanice’s foster mother very seriously,” our Weatherfield source said. “One thing she’s learned over the years is that it’s important to open up serious conversations like these, especially with young people so they’re in possession of the full facts.
“The news about Betsy has shocked everyone and has also opened up a generational divide on the street, with various characters reacting differently. So Sally is cutting through any potential embarrassment by speaking directly to Joanie about the issue.”

Coronation Street has worked closely with the Institute for Addressing Strangulation (IFAS), The Stroke Association and Safeline on the storyline.
“Shining a light on the dangers of this all too common trend, we wanted to chart Betsy and Dylan’s story as they navigate the catastrophic implications of a moment of naivety, and the impact not only on them, but also on their families and the wider community,” producer Kate Brooks previously said.
“By consulting extensively with IFAS, the Stroke Association and Safeline, we aimed to handle Betsy’s journey with the care and sensitivity it deserves while sparking a difficult and somewhat contentious conversation that helps raise awareness of the risks involved in partaking in such acts.”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
