Twenty-six miles of road to face rolling closures for Columbus Marathon this weekend

Thousands of runners will take to Columbus’ streets this weekend for the 2025 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon, resulting in miles of road closures around the race course.

Starting on Oct. 17 and continuing through Oct. 19, roads in and around the marathon in downtown Columbus and the Arena District will face restrictions and closures.

On the day of the marathon, rolling road closures will stretch from the race’s start in the Arena District through downtown Columbus, the German Village, Bexley, the North Bank, the Short North, the Victorian Village, Ohio State University, Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington.

Here are all the closures to expect this weekend, according to COTA.

Oct. 17 road closures for the Columbus Marathon

  • Starting at 9 a.m.: Long Street will close from Hocking Street to Neil Avenue and will remain closed until 6 p.m. Oct. 19, except from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 18 for Blue Jackets and Columbus Crew fan arrivals.
  • Starting at 11:59 p.m.: Spring Street between West Street and Neil Avenue will be closed until 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
  • Starting at 11:59 p.m.: Hanover Street and Cozzins Street will be closed except to local traffic until 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
  • Starting at 11:59 p.m.: West Street between Nationwide and Marconi boulevards and John McConnell Boulevard from New Public Way to Spring Street will be closed until 6 p.m. Oct. 19.

  • Starting at 11:59 p.m.: Spring Street from Neil Avenue to Hocking Street will be closed until 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
  • Starting at 11:59 p.m.: Neil Avenue south from Nationwide Boulevard goes down to one lane for condo traffic only until 6 p.m. Oct. 19

There will also be route changes and bus stop closures for the marathon. Here are all the COTA changes you should look out for.

There will be major delays and reroutes on Oct. 19 as 17 bus lines are rerouted throughout the morning and early afternoon. Lines 1-12, 22, 31,102, CMAX and the Zoo Bus will be affected, according to COTA.

Nearly all Downtown transit stops will be closed starting at 4 a.m. Oct. 19, and over 800 stops will close at some point along the race’s route. The Downtown transit transfer points will be at Spring and Long streets near Fourth Street.

COTA’s reroutes will end in the mid-afternoon Oct. 19 as the marathon ends.
