New England Revolution vs. CF Montreal: MLS Preview and Prediction

The Revolution have an entire game in hand compared to the rest of the MLS, but CF Montreal hits the road looking to take all three points at 4:30 PM ET on Saturday.
New England Revolution vs. CF Montreal MLS Odds and Betting Trends
These Eastern Conference sides have played each other a total of 36 times so far, with New England boasting four more wins (18) than their Canadian opponents. Only four draws have occurred since 2012 – one in the last three games – with both sides trading wins back-and-forth in four of their last five. Montreal won the most recent bout 3-1 last season at Gillette Stadium.
The Revs are looking up for this one, as they hit the turf at -110 favourites compared to Montreal’s money line odds of +260. Draws aren’t super common in these matchups, but could occur at +255. Their last four meetings ended with at least three goals or more, and that’s clear when analyzing the total. Over 2.5 (-145) is more heavily favoured than the under 2.5 at +115.
New England Revolution
The Revolution have an extra game to catch up on with only four played so far, but they’ve only been dominant in a single 6-1 victory over Cincinnati on March 15. While they’ve failed to score in just one game – a 1-0 defeat to the Red Bulls – they’ve lost three of their four games played, allowing eight goals in total. Their saving grace for this matchup could be that they’re at home, as they came out extremely superior against Cincinnati in mid-March.
Seven different goal scorers have found the back of the net so far this season, including Dor Turgeman, who leads as the highest probable goalscorer at +160 odds. Carles Gil is always on deck to strike from the midfield, and while he hasn’t scored yet this season, he’s priced at +175 behind his teammate. Defender Bryan Ceballos leads the team in scoring with two goals from the back line, and he’ll enter this one at +1000 odds to score.
CF Montreal
Montreal’s only really impressive showing so far this season was their 3-0 victory against the Red Bulls back on March 8, but they have gone on to lose two straight games, pushing their total loss count to four. To be fair, they haven’t played any home games this season, and two of their most recent losses were by one goal. Still, Montreal will need to do some intuitive defensive reworking to help prevent more costly goals from entering their net, as they’ve already allowed 14 this season – the second-highest in the MLS.
Even with four losses, the team has struck the opposition’s net seven times in the last three games, with Prince Owusu and Wikelman Carmona combining for the team’s seven goals so far this season. Owusu is likely to score anytime in this one at +165, followed by Daniel Rios at +295, who has yet to break through this season. Carmona follows up his teammates priced at +450 to score anytime by the end of 90 minutes.
MLS Prediction: Who Will Win New England Revolution vs. CF Montreal?
Both teams have remnants of subpar play continuing into this season from last year, as well as apparent inconsistencies. However, one factor to look at is both sides’ recent performance against FC Cincinnati, where the Revs dominated them 6-1, while Montreal succumbed to a close 4-3 defeat.
The Revs achieved this feat at home too, and considering they’re back in action at Gillette once again for the second time this season after netting six previously, I’d take a 2-1 Revolution money line win for this one, which also hits over 2.5.
