What to do during a severe thunderstorm?
The National Weather Service suggests that people stay inside in a sturdy building that can handle large hail, lightning, damaging wind, floods and possibly tornados.
The weather service also recommends staying away from windows and avoiding electric equipment and plumbing. Pets must be brought inside, and loose objects outside should be secured if there is time.
Avoid open spaces and get inside if possible. Cars can offer protection, but ensure tornadoes are not in the forecast.
