Police say fireworks are likely behind a weapons investigation that drew a strong police presence to a south London housing complex, Wednesday morning.
They reopened roads and lifted hold and secure orders at nearby schools after responding to reports of possible gunshots in the 100-block of Baseline Road.
London police said officers were called shortly after 8:10 a.m.
“Out of an abundance of caution, officers took immediate steps to ensure public safety, including temporarily closing nearby roads and placing area schools into a hold and secure,” police spokesperson Sgt. Sandasha Bough said in a statement.
An occupant from a residence in the area was taken into custody but was later released without charges. No injuries have been reported, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
Police said a search of an area home found evidence suggesting fireworks were the source of the noise.
Baseline Road had been closed between West Street and McGregor Avenue, with a heavy police presence surrounding a building at 122 Baseline Rd.
Police said all affected roads have since reopened and hold and secures at nearby schools have been lifted.
