“Actually terrifying”: Chalamet reveals which Dune 3 co-star scared him on set

Timothée Chalamet says Anya Taylor-Joy’s turn as Alia Atreides in “Dune: Part Three” is “actually terrifying,” insisting the praise is not media hyperbole. The remark surfaced at a July 8 Global IMAX Fan Event tied to Warner Bros.’ new trailer, where Chalamet also credited Robert Pattinson’s work as Scytale, saying he already knew from past experience just how talented his co-star was.
Barely had the new “Dune: Part Three” trailer dropped on July 8 than Timothée Chalamet was already stealing the spotlight with a confession of his own. At a Global IMAX Fan Event in Burbank, the actor didn’t mince words about his co-star Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Alia Atreides: “She’s actually terrifying,” he said, brushing off any accusation of promotional exaggeration. He saved a word for Robert Pattinson too, newly arrived as Scytale, admitting he already knew what the actor was capable of from past collaborations. Denis Villeneuve’s final chapter, set for December 18, 2026, now has fans buzzing well before the lights go down.
A chilling performance from Anya Taylor-Joy
The final chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi trilogy is drawing closer, and its lead actor just raised the stakes. Speaking at a Global IMAX Fan Event in Burbank, California on July 8, 2026, Timothée Chalamet singled out Anya Taylor-Joy’s turn in Dune: Part Three. “She’s actually terrifying,” he said, insisting it was not media hyperbole. His comments landed the same day Warner Bros. dropped a new trailer for the film.
Alia Atreides steps into the spotlight
Taylor-Joy plays Alia Atreides, Paul’s younger sister and a pivotal figure in Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah, the source material for this installment. The story picks up 20 years after Dune: Part Two, with Paul having married Princess Irulan to secure peace across the Imperium. That peace has not held, pushing his character into far darker territory.
Pattinson joins a stacked returning cast
Robert Pattinson enters the saga as Scytale, described as a major new role. Chalamet, who had already shared a set with him, was equally enthusiastic. “I worked with Rob before. I knew how good he was,” he said, adding that Anya is something special in the movie, “as is Rob.” The returning ensemble includes Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Irulan, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, plus Josh Brolin and Rebecca Ferguson. Jason Momoa is also back after sitting out the second film, and Hans Zimmer returns to compose the score.
The countdown to December
Principal photography began in July 2025 and wrapped in November 2025, with shoots in Budapest and Abu Dhabi. Villeneuve is now deep in post-production on what is billed as the conclusion of his trilogy, which began in 2021 and continued with the Oscar-winning Dune: Part Two in 2024. The July 8 trailer, accompanied by a set of character posters, offered the first extended look at this older, more haunted Paul Atreides.
Dune: Part Three opens in theaters nationwide on December 18, 2026.
