1 person dead after shooting: Surrey Police Service

At least one person was killed in a broad-daylight shooting on Monday afternoon in Surrey, police say.

According to the Surrey Police Service (SPS), the incident occurred near the intersection of 130 Street and 76 Avenue shortly after 3 p.m.

In a written statement, Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says that officers attend the scene, which is “at a business.”

Upon arrival, SPS officers located a man apparently suffering from gunshot wounds and provided medical assistance until BC Emergency Health Service (BCEHS) arrived,” he added.

“Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased on scene.”

Images from the scene show that police have cordoned off entrances to a commercial building.

A homicide investigation has been launched by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

No arrests have been made yet.

Police did not provide any additional information on whether this incident is extortion-related.

Witnesses are asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
